One Rasuna Said JPO to be Dismantled Due to Poor Accessibility

The Jakarta government is set to dismantle one of the Rasuna Said Pedestrian Bridge (JPO), Kuningan, South Jakarta. This decision was made after the Jakarta Governor, Pramono Anung, conducted a field inspection of the bridge on Sunday (8/9).

We expect the demolition to be finished in about two weeks

"After reviewing and inspecting the site, I found that both bridges essentially serve the same purpose—facilitating pedestrian crossing and providing access to LRT facilities, among other things," Pramono stated.

He noted that while the LRT and KAI bridges are modern, the one built by the city dates back to the late 80s or early 90s.

Following a meeting with his staff, Pramono decided to remove the older bridge due to its lack of accessibility.

"The difference in height between the two structures means that people with disabilities can't use them effectively. As a result, we are dismantling the old bridge," he explained.

Pram clarified that there will eventually be a single, fully upgraded bridge in Rasuna Said, complete with elevators and modern facilities, ending the public's 'love-hate' relationship with the current infrastructure.

"The Bina Marga Agency is taking action soon. We're concentrating on making the bridge disability-friendly," he explained.

Jakarta Highway Agency Head, Heru Suwondo added that the bridge's demolition would first be recorded by the Regional Asset Management Agency (BPAD) for the auctioning of the work.

"We expect the demolition to be finished in about two weeks, or no later than October," he stated.
